SNAP HYDROPONICS

by Pierre Bon
(Philippines)

I want to ask if i can use coco coir or coco peat as a growing medium for the seedlings to start their roots? If that is possible. what is the procedure that i will follow? the system that i would use is SNAP Hydroponics.. Hope you reply to my Questions.

Answer from Stella/Simon:

Hi Pierre,
Have to admit, we were not familiar with the SNAP system of hydroponics. But a little research brought us up to speed. Apparently this is a very simple and cost-effective system using non-circulating nutrients. It was created in Hawaii and is used extensively in Asia. It seems to us to be a form of our "lettuce raft" system.

From what we read, coco coir is the recommended growing medium to start your seeds in (styrofoam cups).

Hope this helps!

COCO COIR GROWING MEDIUM
by: Ed V. Santiago, Philippines

In my experimental MODIFIED WICK HYDROPONICS SYSTEM, I use a combination of COCONUT HUSK and rice hull (carbonized/cooked or not)with promising results. I grow a lot of crops including tomato, peppers, basil, snake gourd, bitter gourd, lettuce, pechay, etc. I am in the process of documenting the system and very soon I will be disseminating the results in the INTERNET. I formulated my own HYDROPONIC NUTRIENT SOLUTIONS (inorganic and inorganic)and are being tested. You can contact me for details in my e-mail: edilbertosantiago27@yahoo.com
By the way I work with the DA-Region I and detailed at ADP Station, San Ildefonso, Ilocos Sur, Philippines.
