PH dropping to quick

Hello, I'm running a 150 gallon reservoir feeding 360 heads of lettuce in the flood table. I have an automatic mixing/monitoring system that is keeping the EC level OK/temp OK/nutrients OK/ but it only adjusts the ph down when I hit 6.2. Whats happening is the ph drops from 6.0 to 5.2 in a ten hour period and the mixer won't adjust up. I have a small build up of algae in the res. Could this be causing the sharp ph drop? Thanks

What is your source of N?
by: Anonymaus

Sounds like you're using an Ammoniacal Nitrogen fertilizer.

What happens is that Ammoniacal Nitrogen requires micro-organisms to convert it to nitrates that the plant can absorb and if you don't have a living nutrient solution, the AN gets left behind and causes the pH to crash.

Check your bottle of fertilizer. If it has a high percentage of AN you either have to add bacteria and enzymes or switch to a Nitrate Nitrogen source. I personally went with the latter.
