Peroxide in the nutrient?

I was reading one of your replies last week and was really happy to read your tip on using hydrogen peroxide in your tank to reduce algae. I'm trying to raise water cress in a deep water system at the moment. The bed is 1 meter wide and 6 meters long and holds about 1000 liters of water. Do you think if I use hydrogen peroxide it will reduce the green scum I have growing on the surface of the water and if so how much would you recommend I start with to try.
Best regards and please keep up the good work your website is so helpful.
Regards Ray

Answer from Stella/Simon:
Hi Ray,
The best way to prevent algae is to keep light from hitting the nutrients. This includes using opaque (not clear) tubing and reservoirs. You can even paint the outside of the components with black paint. As far as the peroxide, we always put a little into our vats weekly.
Try a half capful each week, increase to a capful if not effective.
Good luck!
Stella
Hope this helps!
