Nutrient Concentration Change Trigger

by James Pelletier
(Dracut, MA)

Hi All,

I am about 3 weeks into my first project and things are going well. Rather than going by "the box" and changing my nutrients once a week I would rather follow the %50 method. My setup is a 4X4 ebb and flow with a 50 gallon reservoir located in my cellar in a grow tent. I don't seem to be losing/evaporating much solution at all and it seems it would take me a long time at this point to top up 25 Gallons. In this situation should I rely more on the PPM of the solution to signal a change? What number PPM would I be looking for to signal that I need to drain and change? My most important crops are my tomatoes.

Thank you!
