Grow Medium Effects PH`

by Mark
(Cincinnati)

Hi,

Just an observation. Just wondering if others have
observed the same.

Using 50/50 Coco Coir and Perlite mix. Mixed up 30
gallons of nutrients for a Dutch Bucket top drip
system with just four buckets to start with.

After allowing the bubbler to run overnight, I added the
three component nutrient solution. Let it sit two hours
and then checked the PH. Started at 6.8. I wasn't sure,
but suspected the media might effect the PH. So, I ran
the pump for three hours. Each bucket has a drip wring,
so a lot of nutrients get pumped in. I checked after
three hours and the PH dropped to 5.7. I added some
PH UP and now at 6.1.

I'm running my system now without plants to make sure the
timers and sensors are working right. For instance, I
have a temp sensor that will turn on an exhaust fan at
80 degrees F. I seal my grow chamber pretty good. The
fan is in the top right, and fresh air holes in the
bottom left. It should pull the hottest air off the top
and cool air across the plants.
